Welcome to the web page of Chavey Down WI, Berkshire Federation!

We meet on the 3rd Monday of the month at St Martin’s Hall in Church Road, Chavey Down at 7.45pm.

We were formed in 1975 and celebrated our 40th Birthday in 2015. My, doesn’t time fly – we are now rapidly approaching our FIFTIETH anniversary!

In addition to our monthly meetings where we hear from a wide range of interesting speakers, we regularly go on trips to the theatre, gardens, walks, Christmas Markets, lunches, dinners, coffee mornings and afternoon teas throughout the year, which are organised by our wonderful outings secretary, Angela, and we also have various book and craft groups in Member’s homes.

We are always looking for new members with different ideas, and would love to welcome you as a guest at one of our meetings or coffee mornings so you can suss us out before committing to membership! Please do have a look around our website to see more of what we do, and then contact us either through this website or our Facebook page if you’d like to know more.

I often get asked “Why the WI?”

I tell them at our meetings you are yourself, not someone’s Mother, Daughter, Wife, or Grandmother. For 2 hours you can relax, listen to some interesting speakers, chat and have a cup of tea/coffee and cake and perhaps win a raffle prize. We have a flower of the month competition and a competition linked to the subject in the programme and there are cups to win for both.

In addition, friendships are made, new skills learned and support offered.

The national Women’s Institute, of which we are part, was set up in 1915 to give women a voice and to be a force for good in the community. Since then, our members and our ambitions alike have grown tremendously. Today, we are the largest women’s organisation in the UK and we pride ourselves on being a trusted place for all women of all generations, to share experiences and learn from each other. A WI membership offers the opportunity to meet women in your local area in-person and virtually, to make friends and make a difference in your community.

You have found this website so you are half way there, and we look forward to meeting you.

Best Wishes

Beryl McGibbon – CDWI President.

Parking is available at St David’s and St Christopher’s Nursing Home, Priory Rd, Ascot SL5 8RS, a short walk away.  Please park just inside the main gate in the car park.  There is limited car parking at St Martin’s Hall so if you can use the alternative car park that would help with those who need to park close by
